What Is the Sampson Data-Pattern Index™?

A patented invention that creates a data matrix from journal log data, preserving the full detail of transactions. The Data-Pattern Index™ then selects these transactions according to specified accounting types (accounts, debit/credit, frequency, complexity, Boolean, etc.) -- but goes one significant step further than other tools:

It searches transactions by customizable combinations (unions, subtracts, [forthcoming] near-neighbor) to identify transaction patterns and detail.

The Purpose

The purpose of the technology's development is to enhance the information presently supplied to supervisors and specialists, to restore associative qualities needed to understand transaction events and components, to assess flows and trends, and to facilitate intervention where needed to ensure the health and optimal functioning of the department, company, or unit.

One hundred years ago established accountants complained that the new punched-card method was ignoring important information of the manual method. Lower costs of mechanical and electronic methods decided the issue and the 'single-entry vs. double-entry' contest was largely forgotten. One feature of manual Accounting was an understanding of normal transactions, and consequently, abnormal transactions. Data-Pattern Index (DPI) restores this understanding, and augments it with search technology.

While queries in Relational Database can find almost any individual group, comparative analysis of groups found on documents in the entire log approaches NP complete. On the other hand, DPI yields considerable information from logs of accounting-series applications at real-time speed.

DPI organizes the groups in the log (journal entries, invoices, schedules, etc.) into a set of sets whereby the user can find information from major subsets to anomalies. The vehicle is patented organization of sparse matrix logic into traditional files. There is zero wasted computer space.

Many computer users can establish the traditional log file by adding code to the server to accumulate input transactions to a (secure) text file. DPI adapts to the growing file with each increment, allowing potential real-time user analysis.

Case-based reasoning - an opening step

Beyond the Accounting-series applications, text conversions of email sentences, static logs of network paths, or medical/pharmaceutical cases can be constructed and subjected to modified DPI analysis of sets.

Scope and speed

Scope and speed capabilities are expected to hold and increase through subsequent generations of DPI products, so long as moveable disc storage remains the standard computing configuration. Yet user interface with these powerful tools is invisible and effortless.

The current version is in Linux, but because some users will wish to operate in a Microsoft environment, an adaptation of the product will offer that configuration as well. Both versions will be accessed via Internet browser, supported by DPI.
